what you can do
To stop the abuse of prescription drugs everyone in the community must work together and find ways to stop teens from using these drugs. It will take parents, schools, and other adolescents to stop the abuse of prescription drugs. "Ways parents can stop prescription drug abuse is by being a good role model, set limits, define standards of behavior and achievement, educating teens about the dangers, and provide consequences for risky behaviors" (Preventing Adolescent Substance Abuse). An article from the White House verifies that education is a crucial step in tackling the problem of prescription drug abuse and the dangers of abusing prescription drugs (Prescription Drug Abuse). This would make a contribution because teenagers look to their parents as role models and will often listen to their parents because they are afraid of the consequences. Educating teens about the dangers behind these drugs will prevent them from experimenting with them because they will be scared of them and their side effects. Most teens do not know about the dangers behind these drugs and believe they are “safe” to use, informing these teens will make them understand and realize the dangers behind these drugs. Many different organizations have started and are being continuously being created to help the prevention of prescription drugs. Stopping this problem is not for one person but everyone can help prevent the abuse of prescription drugs.
